Business Leader Magazine Releases its 2001 Impact 100 List: Heather Hesketh, CEO of hesketh.com/inc., Recognized for Second Consecutive Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Raleigh, NC - 19 February 2001 — Today's fast-paced business world is all about money. Or is it? According to Heather Hesketh, success is about "enjoying my job, working with bright, dedicated people, and feeling like my life is integrated." That's just the attitude that has landed Hesketh, the CEO of six-year-old hesketh.com/inc., on Business Leader magazine's Impact 100 list for the second consecutive year.

The Impact 100 list is comprised of Triangle business leaders who make significant contributions to their community and/or profession. All have been nominated by peers or business colleagues and chosen by a Business Leader selection committee.

Business Leader publisher Dan Davies says of this year's recipients, "Business Leader salutes these exceptional individuals for their hard work and contributions. It is leaders such as these who continue to help our region grow and prosper, and continue to be one of the best places to live in America."

Under Hesketh's leadership, hesketh.com has become an example of the kind of company that Davies credits with prospering the Triangle area. hesketh.com has become a major player in the Web development community, locally as well as nationally. With each project, hesketh.com continues to build its reputation for delivering intuitive design and elegant, extensible code. The company has experienced tremendous growth, increasing the number of team members exponentially since its beginnings in 1995. From 1999 to present, sales have increased by 200% and gross profits have increased by 12%.

Through the success of hesketh.com, Hesketh has been able to "give back" to the community, from financially backing Webdesign-L (a Web community that has grown to over 1,500 members) to creating a site pro bono for Building Character, Inc. (a non-profit center working to impact the character development of children and youth).

Individually, Hesketh is involved with the professional community in a number of ways, including:

  • Grantor of Council for Entrepreneurial Development, an organization that supports entrepreneurs in the Triangle area and works to promote public awareness of the contribution that entrepreneurial companies make to the surrounding community.
  • Founding member of the Triangle InterNetWorkers, an association that describes itself as "a geographically defined, loosely knit group of technology workers who like to get together once a month and socialize" and serves to provide opportunities for networking and professional encouragement.
  • Founding member of (TW)2 (formerly the local chapter of Webgrrls International). Hesketh says she helped launch Triangle Webgrrls "because I was looking for my niche in the industry. It just so happened that the only special interest group specifically for the Internet industry turned out to be a community of women." (TW)2 provides a forum for women to exchange information, give job and business leads, learn about new technologies, mentor one another, and participate in training opportunities.

Whether it's creating a place for women to meet and inspire each other's professional lives, shaping children through character education, or bringing entrepreneurs together so they can enhance the community around them, "it's about affecting people," Hesketh says. "You can't change the world by yourself. Changing the world begins with doing what you can to affect the people you personally encounter."
