hesketh.com Deepens Bench in Information Architecture

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Raleigh, NC - 24 April 2001 — Leading Web services firm hesketh.com announces that Mir Haynes has joined its talented team of professionals as Information Architect.

Michael Tucker, Chief Relationship Officer at hesketh.com, says that Mir's experience is broad and extensive. "Mir has a refreshing understanding of Information Architecture as a discipline," he states. "As soon as we talked with her, we knew she would be a valuable asset to our team."

Haynes has worked on a number of online information delivery systems, user manuals, and complex information architectures for corporate clients. She defines her chosen field with a description that was first posed by Eric Reiss in his book Practical Information Architecture. According to Reiss, Information Architecture is "the arrangement of browser-based information (more specifically, the internal relationships between individual Web pages) so visitors can do whatever they came to do with as little effort (and confusion) as possible."

Mir has jumped into her job at hesketh.com with enthusiasm. In addition to working on multiple client projects as information architect, she is also redesigning the hesketh.com intranet, designing a hesketh.com extranet, and improving internal processes (such a writing a handbook that will train other information architects, orient new employees, and document and improve the hesketh.com methodology).

Haynes first became interested in the labeling and organization of complex information while pursuing her bachelor's degree in zoology, a field that relies heavily on taxonomy. She later went on to earn a Master of Science in Technical Communication from NC State University.

Technical communication, she says, "was a great springboard into the field of information architecture. People who 'architect' information for the Web have many of the same considerations as technical communicators-knowing and accommodating your audience, understanding principles of design, organizing information in an intuitive way." Continuing, she adds, "The M.S. program at State prepared me in so many ways for my work as an information architect. I studied technical writing and editing, Web design, usability testing, the rhetoric of science and technology, desktop publishing. I think my understanding of each of these areas strengthens my approach to IA."

Mir is an avid gardener and enjoys her view of the J.C. Raulston Arboretum from her hesketh.com office. She is also passionate about her volunteer work in the community. Currently, she visits the elderly with her dog as coordinator of the Raleigh-Area Pet Therapy group. She has also been a volunteer for the Special Olympic World Games, mentored college freshmen, worked as a reading tutor for first and fourth graders, and watched two-year -olds as a volunteer for MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers).
